April 3, 2017

Dear Parents,

We will start our virtual pig dissection this week.  The students seem very ready to go!  I look forward to seeing how it all goes.  There will be one more week after break to work on the virtual and then the real deal will start.  I will have use of only one hand so I have asked Rachel Mohrmann (former student and Sue Besler's daughter) to come in and help.

Friday is Jumprope 4 Heart in the afternoon.  Please help encourage the kids to make at least a little donation towards heart research.  They sure were pumped up when the woman came to talk to them a couple weeks ago.

May you all have a blessed Holy Week!  Lots of opportunities to worship and remember all that Christ did for us.

Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone was able to pick themselves up and dust themselves off after the very dreary weekend AND that heartbreaking Badger loss on Friday night!

Check out the MAEFAR projects in the hallway.  The 7th graders did a great job on the project!  It shows their real ability to draw and gather information on 6 different organisms.

This week we will be going over some general body systems in preparation for the virtual pig dissection and LIVE pig dissection.  This week should be a review for most students, so hopefully it will be an easy week for them in science.

My math class:  PLEASE look at your child's grades.  I have some students who are really struggling.  By this time in the year I have explained to them that they need to be ready to come ask questions and pursue understanding.  I will not seek them out, other than the usual questions and offers I make.

My reading class:  Be aware that your child should be working on questions and a character chart throughout the quarter.  There are few grades and those will not be given until the end of the quarter.  Please make sure he/she is keeping up with the work.

Friday morning we are doing Stations of the Cross led by our family leaders.  We will sit in our families and welcome you to join us if you have time.  It will begin around 9:00 in the church.

Many blessings,
Kim

We had a great time on Friday.  In the morning we had a representative from the Jumprope 4 Heart Association come and talk to the students.  Our Jumprope 4 Heart is scheduled for the Friday before spring break, April 7th.  Then, in the afternoon, Trinity Irish Dancers came to perform for us.  The students seemed to have a great time!

The 5th graders will be joining the middle school for a day this week!  On Thursday the 5th graders will come down the long hallway and go on a "day in the life of a middle schooler" adventure with various 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

I hope you all have a great week!  GO BADGERS!!!

Dear Parents,

It is finally the week of the 2017 Science Fair!  Although we've had some trials, I think we will end up feeling lots of tribulations!  Please feel free to join us on Tuesday from 12:45-3:05 or 6:00-7:30 in the gym.  I sent an email out detailing last minute directions.

We have a regular week, with the exception of Science Fair on Tuesday.

Huge thank you goes out to all who helped support Trivia Knight 2017!  It was a great success all because of you and your support!  It was fun to see so many smiles on so many faces!

February 20, 2017

Dear Parents,

What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL weekend's worth of weather!  The sunshine sure warmed my heart as I hope it did yours, too!

Congratulations to Evan and his family on taking his First Communion this morning at 9am mass.  I've been at St. Dennis for almost 20 years and have never had a single 7th grader take his/her First Communion and this year we've had 2!!!  Congratulations again to Anthony Holliday and Evan Robertson!

This week, ALL students will turn in their rough drafts of the science fair paper.  Last names of A-G turn it in on Thursday; Last names H-P turn it in on Wednesday; Last names Q-Z turn it in on Tuesday.  I look forward to reading and giving feedback on each paper.

I hope you have a great week!
Many blessings,
Kim

February 13, 2017

Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone was able to get out and enjoy some of that rare sunshine we saw on Sunday.  Saturday was sure a dreary one, but Sunday made up for it!

Jonah did a great job in the City Wide Spelling Bee!  He came in 19th out of 45 and went out during the 4th round.  It was fun to watch, but much too stressful for me to imagine competing!  Great job and thanks for representing us so well!

Anthony and Chloe Holliday experienced God's presence on Sunday by choosing to be baptized and taking 1st communion.  I am so excited for them and their family.  What great examples to others these two kids are!  Congratulations and welcome!!!

Don't forget Evan has his 1st communion scheduled for next Sunday at 9am mass!

This week:

CRUSH sales continue through Monday.  There is no 7th grade Valentine's party, just to be clear.  I do have a very small Valentine treat for them, so no treats are necessary.  I hope everyone has a great Valentine's day!

Wednesday all graphs (analysis of data) and conclusions are due for science fair.  I had 6-9 students who did not turn in any data and/or research last week.  That automatically counted as a late date on his/her grade sheet.  Please be sure that students are staying on track.  Next week ALL rough drafts are due.  I will be sending out an email concerning those expectations soon.  The directions/expectations are laid out clearly in the science fair packet.

No school on Friday!

Many blessings, Kim

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful week we had!  THANK YOU to all those who helped us celebrate what a great education your children are experiencing!  It was a spectacular, busy, memorable Catholic Schools Week!

This week the students begin his/her opportunity to work on science fair projects.  Please be sure that your child brings in his/her supplies to work on the project.  I am hoping that giving in class time, the projects will all be a little bit more successful.

Friday is the annual ski trip.  It looks to be a really nice day, weather wise.  I hope that the kids have an awesome time learning this new skill or building on the skills he/she already has!  The instructors we have set up are sure to give a great experience!  We will leave around 8:40ish and will be back in time for the 3:15 bell.

Many blessings for a wonderful week!
Kim

Dear Parents,

Crazy Packer game yesterday!  Even if you aren't a Packer fan, it was worth a watch!  We are on to next week and with that we'll have another Packer day on Friday!

This week is a "regular" schedule.  We start the 3rd quarter (which BLOWS my mind) tomorrow!  Report cards will come home on Friday this week.

Science Fair projects really need to be started by now.  If your child needs help, PLEASE encourage him/her to spend some time with me this week discussing how to begin this "adventure".  Beginning this week, students have class time on Thursdays to work on his/her project.  I am available during that time, before school, or anytime after school.  The due dates are going to come quickly and I would hate to have anyone get behind.

Catholic Schools Week is coming up soon.  Be sure to check out the school website for volunteer opportunities.  I know they are always looking for extra hands, so please consider helping out if possible.

With the new quarter, we switch electives and reading groups.  Check in with your child to make sure that you are aware of expectations from the new classes.  If your child has me for reading this semester, I sent out all the information for the upcoming quarter.

Many blessings,
Kim
